In this video we look at how Ed Herman was able to take down Clifford Starks in the final moments of their battle at UFC 143. The trip takedown itself was very well executed but it’s the recognition of the set up that’s really important. Here we look at how the footwork and head placement of Clifford Starks in the clinch against the cage gave Ed Herman the perfect opportunity for a leg trip take down. There are a number of variations possible within the takedown technique itself but the real skill is in recognising the opportunity and taking advantage of your opponents ill discipline. If you get that correct it’s a quick and dynamic take down that’s great for MMA, especially against the cage, but it’s also possible without the cage so it’s also appropriate for BJJ matches and Wrestling.
