This is a really fun MMA / BJJ groundwork and Wrestling drill that has students working as teams in order beat the the opposing team in a grappling tag team match. The drill starts with the students divided into two teams and with two students on the mat, the students that are grappling can tag anyone from their team at any point in order to change over.
During the change over a 5 second count is given and the team doing the tagging can go 2 on 1 against their opponent during this time. There is no limit to the amount of times that a team can tag a new member in so tactically the tags can be used to keep fresh people coming in against a tired or strong opponent.
There are quite a few options that you can vary with this drill – you can do the drill without strikes so that it’s more BJJ / Wrestling focused or you can add strikes so that it’s more MMA focused. You can also add standing elements into the drill – striking or just wrestling but primarily this is usually kept as a groundwork drill.
