In this video we look at a slightly unorthodox approach to striking with an elbow from the clinch but it’s the unusual and unexpected angle that makes it surprisingly successful.
You can initiate this move whenever you are in a position to pass the lead hand across the body so a collar tie or neck clinch is an ideal starting position.
The key movements here are as follows:
- Drop the lead shoulder and drive it across the body
- Turn the lead foot so that the heel is pointing toward your opponent
- Establish a vertical line through the shoulders
- Strike with the elbow in a vertical position
We demonstrate this being delivered while we are wrestling on the wall but it could equally be utilised in open play.
